About Us
The Friends of Mansa General Hospital was founded in 2019 after our Founder, Grace Chama-Pupe, saw the support desperately needed for carers of inpatients at the hospital. With little shelter for those who travel from remote towns, no cooking appliances, and little sanitation, Grace knew that something must be done to support the families.
Our Goals
Our aim is simple, to provide much-needed shelter, provisions, and services to support those with friends and family receiving treatment at Mansa General Hospital in Zambia. For those who live in remote villages, Mansa General Hospital will be their nearest hospital, yet they have no safe way to travel and nowhere to stay while they help look after their
friends and family in need.

We aim to provide shelter for those needing to stay near the hospital but do not have the funds to pay for accommodation, with the purchase of double bunk beds and mattresses. The shelter provides vital accommodation for those visiting from rural and remote villages, and we aim to drastically improve the conditions at the shelter through various means. At present, many cook over charcoals inside the shelter but this can be extremely dangerous due to the carbon monoxide released as the coals burn. To avoid this, we plan to purchase stoves for visitors to use and cook safely. Alongside this, we aim to provide a small fridge and clean sanitation with clean water, new flushing toilets, and showers.

These differences may seem small to many, but to those who need our help in Mansa, these small steps will make a big improvement to their lives as they care for those in the hospital.

The charity’s goals don’t stop at the small. In the long-term, we aim to pay for and run an ambulance to transport patients and carers to and from their remote villages. At present, many travel long distances by bicycles with travel time becoming often fatal for those who are sick.

We also plan to build and run a food bank close to hospital to help those who cannot afford to pay for food while they stay to care for friends and family. For this, we will need to build and stock the food bank and employ staff to run the facility.
